mm..it was about skill > time. they obviously believe that some items should be rare or hard to get, otherwise they wouldn't have made it rare/expensive.

lol wut.
While not new, it has been a while since either of those have occured. While we have had multiple Faction weekends since then.

Some more:

Rare Materials weekend

Battle of the Gods weekend: The gods are battling in the Fissure of Woe and the Underworld. Each god has brought his army to do battle, pick your side and join the fighting. Special powers (blessings) related to each god will help you in your fight. There will be extra quests and double the drops from the end chests.

Shrug.
Hero Battles are the WNBA of Guild Wars. Nobody good plays it, nobody watches it, nobody cares.

A.net really needs to stop promoting it because it isn't going to change the fundamentally flawed design of Hero Battles. Even when costume brawls were introduced as a HB tutorial, they still aren't popular.

Hero Battles were forced on to the community on more then one occasion. Most players have made it clear they highly dislike if not despise hero battles. ANET continues to try and push hero battles on to people. Hero Battles are broken, boring, and a giant run around in circles game that requires little skill, but rather more micro management then an RTS game (funny thing is, I actually love RTS games...)

Having a weekend event devoted entirely to Hero Battles is dumb...plain dumb. They should at least have a PvP weekend, where GvG players, HAer's, and Hero Battlers all get special bonuses. Shoving hero battles down my through doesn't make me want to suddenly play them more....

We had this "weekend to dye for" weekend once. They should do more stuff like that like candy weekend, booze weekend, etc.
There are a zillion weekends they can come up with, a zillion where we already came up with, I wonder why they keep doing the same stuff. Their CM's read the forums right?
I know they are busy with GW2, but it can't be that hard right?

looks like my sentiments have been well expressed by Rahja and Hawk.

Funny thing is I was on the beta tester team for HB, and I hated it then, and haven't done one since. It's just a stupid idea, doesn't work, is boring and no fun.

And there are plenty of better ideas rather than this one which crops up constantly. We all have our preferences, personally I'd like to see better ways to earn Kurz/Lux faction, so double faction/AB, but also some of the new ideas expressed in this and other threads.

I think Anet is just phoning it in now. It's so odd to see a lot of time put towards neat shiny things like Deldrimor items and constant micro-tweaking of random skills, when the game itself is tired and stale. If their scant GW1 resources were allocated differently, there would be life left.

If anet really wanted to promote it, they'd add more maps and improve hero AI.

I'd love to see another double (Kurz/Luxon) faction weekend. We haven't had one of those in over a year.

I think they should schedule all weekends and reveal it to us and leave it until GW2 comes out
With that they should abbandon GW1 and focus on GW2 to launch it as fast as possible. I dont like the idea of having them "fixing" what they never could entirely fix before and waste time and people on a dead game. Dead because they already announced they will make a better version of it and they are working on it, so as a economist i see no reason to keep on wasting time on something that will go away in some time short.
The only reason i see for keep on playing GuildWars to get the titles for GuildWars2, without beeing able to transfer, i would surely stop playing.

I think we all wnat guildwars 2 to come out as fast as possible therefore we should come to our senses and leave as it is and hope that the time they would be using on the remnants of GW1 they create something better or faster at GW2

HB is a joke. a special arena weekend would be nice, like a weekend were you could do eather dragon arena, costume brawl or snowball.

hero battles suck, and a vast majority just ignores them. They go againt the common logic that guild wars is a team game, and after trying to play them when nf came out, they literally made me sick to my stomache

I hate Hero Battles. I want free Urgoz/Deep weekend, that weekend was so fun last time.

while i agree with you on the analogy...

costume brawl was introduced as a way for anet to test certain aspects of the BMP... a year after nightfall went retail.

hero battles have been around since nightfall. nightfall preview weekend was the test for heros. (flamingo army anyone?)

Anet's Main Failure was not having a title for it from the beginning... It was months after NF that the HB title was introduced "slash roll commander"

You are missing my point Horseman. Costume Brawl was HBs (with HB maps and rules) with real people instead of Heroes and 5 man teams. Not only did they test the BMP set up, they also introduced the rules of HB to anybody who had never played it. Even then, it didn't suddenly get people interested in HB.

Last time we had Double Hero Battle:

Quote:
* Hero Battles offer double reward -- 12 February 2008

Participate in Hero Battles this weekend to earn double Balthazar faction for points scored and HB victories, as well as double Victory Points to bolster your Commander title. These double rewards will be offered from Noon Pacific (-8 GMT) on Friday, February 15 through 11:59 PM Pacific (-8 GMT) on Sunday, February 17, 2008.
However, this time it says nothing about the Commander title and Victory points.

Quote:
* Double Faction in Hero Battles -- May 2, 2008

Starting Noon Pacific time (-7 GMT) this Friday, you can earn double Balthazar faction in all Hero Battles. These double rewards extend through Sunday at 11:59 PM Pacific time (-7 GMT).
EDIT: I discovered through Regina's post about the Victory points. Nonetheless, as I mentioned in another thread, I'll just end up letting other people get free wins...
